It is with great sadness that we must announce the permanent closure of the Pelibar and its foundation.
The Pelibar, better known as ‘the Peli’, has had a long and turbulent history with many bumps along the way.
From its origins in 1975 to its restart in 2019, the bar has seen bankruptcy, floods, several thefts, and once was notoriously used as a drug den.
But the Pelibar has also had many ups and has meant a lot to so many people.
The Pelibar has seen many anniversaries, movie nights, Mario Kart nights and indoor beaches, as well as staged the Pelilympics and so much more.
Sadly, corona forced us to close for a longer time than anticipated and see interest in the bar wane.
So, as with many boards before them, this board was faced with the prospect of closing the bar permanently and was unable to come to a different solution.
But, who knows, perhaps the space will be reopened in a similar fashion and a common room for all can be realised again.
From Stichting de Pelikaan, however, this is a final goodbye.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped make this such a special place over the years.
Thank you to all the volunteers, all the regulars, and all the one-time guests who have graced our humble establishment.
We love you all.
